Considering that the credit card is not that old, it has become a huge financial success. In our lets-have-it-now society, the credit card has become a primary method of having whatever we want and paying for it later. Once considered the ultimate symbol of status the credit card is now available to almost the whole adult population.

In layman’s terms, a credit card allows a person to make purchases up to the limit set by the card issuer. Each month, the owner of the card can decide to pay an installment off the balance plus any interest or repay the owed amount in full. Usually, credit card payments per month range from the minimum amount set by the bank to entire outstanding balance. It is up to the card holder whether he wants to pay over a longer period or not but if he does decide on this option then he will be paying for far longer and eve a small balance will cost considerably more to clear.

Only persons over the legal age are permitted to hold a credit card as it is a huge financial responsibility. Most of the adults in the U.

Credit cards in the US have two options; a variable rate of interest and a fixed rate as with the majority of loans. Compared to variable rate cards where rate may be subject to change depends upon the credit card issuer’s discretion, fixed-rate carry higher interest rates. The user may decide on the Charge Agreement as his method of repayment in which case any outstanding balance is paid each month, whereas payments on the Installment Agreement as the name suggests rely on a fixed monthly amount being paid of the debt. Commonly, married couples use the joint account option but with this option the responsibility of payment lies with the primary card holder.

Have you thought about your monthly spending on the card, the payments or even the annual fees because all these points need to be considered. Information from web sites can also be useful in your search for the ideal credit card. Comparisons are often available where they will give information on all the major, and minor, cards currently on the market; use this information to your advantage.

Regardless of the type of credit card you choose, be sure to discuss your specific financial needs with your financial advisor or accountant before applying for any credit card. You probably recognize many of the big credit card companies such as Chase Manhattan, MasterCard, HSBC, Bank of America and American Express although there are many more.

The worst situation you can find yourself in not being able to meet the monthly repayment. At all costs, avoid the situation where you then have to spend time repairing your credit report.

Credit Card Fees are not the same thing as the annual interest rate that you pay on your card each month. Credit card companies charge various fees for allowing you to carry that little piece of plastic around! These fees can range from nothing at all to very expensive.

Some fees are paid annually, some every month. Before you apply for any credit card, you should be aware of exactly what fees are charged for each one. Some of the types of credit card fees you might find are administrative service charges, late payment charges, custom logo fees, insurance fees etc.

If you are not sure what credit card fees you are paying make sure to check your member agreement. This will have been mailed to you with your credit card. While it may seem like a lot of legal mumbo-jumbo it is something you should take the time to read.

To avoid late fees, be sure to pay before the due date on your statement. Keep in mind that the processing of a payment takes time. Even if you pay online, be sure to allow a few days for the transaction to be recorded. Also, check your credit card agreement to see if an extra fee is added for allowing you to pay online.

Many credit card companies will also provide convenient checks to use with your account. Be cautious of these! They offer carry hidden fees. While they seem the same as using your card, there is usually a costsometimes as high as ten dollars each for processing them.

If you are traveler you may find yourself accessing some cash at the ATM with your credit card. This can lead to extra credit card fees that you may not be aware of. Some credit card companies charge a higher interest rate for cash withdraws as well as fees for using the bank machine.

Almost all credit card companies issue an annual fee, and add it to your statement without warning. When you are in the market for a new card it is worth trying to find one that won’t charge a large fee. When you do come across such a credit card be sure that the offer is permanent and not just a limited time offer to get you to sign up.

All in all the best credit card to have is one with no annual fee and no hidden credit card fees.
